Need help! German canteen

Hello all. I got this mountain/medical canteen a few days ago for $70. :)
the strap is broken. :weep:

My most important question is can it be repaired?
or will it be better to get a new strap? Where?
leave as is?

$70 still a good buy for it? What is it worth with broken strap?
