I am curious if anyone knows the proper Soviet names and style numbers for each cap I posted, opposed to the generically-used "Afghanka" seen on the Internet. I do not own these caps– they were copied from web images. The only caps I confirm are (A) the M-38 that was the original cap to be called an "Afghanka" in the Soviet-era, yet this cap was not designed for/during the Afghan war. This cap was replaced by the Panama hat but a true Soviet "panama" cap (does anyone know its real model number and name?) was not used in Afghanistan so I have read, as production of it came after the war. The second cap (B) is the popularly-termed "Syriaka" without a balaclava wrapping. Does anyone know the true model name and number of this cap? The third (C) is a cap with the "ushanka" on top. This I’ve seen in photos of troops from 1979-82. What is the correct term and model of this cap and, was it phased out with another model? Your help is appreciated. –Will
Got these two as part of a small lot of paperwork a few weeks ago. I didn’t buy the lot specifically for these, and haven’t really looked at them since putting them on display in the cabinet. Was feeling bored this afternoon, so took them both out for a bit of impromptu photography.
I’ve never really studied these cards, and am interested in learning anything I can about them. I know they were handed out at funeral services, and that the second card I have here is postwar, but apart from that I’m in the dark.
Could anyone help with this long service medal. I have had it for about six months and I thought it was a reproduction but I have had a few conflicting opinions as to it being original or not. It measures 30mm and 2mm thick but looks a little thinner in places. The rim is a bit rough, as though a flash line had been filed off after casting. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hello, i was looking to purchase my first SA dagger and found this one for a decent price. It is sold by, what seems to be, a reputable dealer on a weapons auction site. Looks to be from the mid thirties. Any opinion on the authenticity/value is appreciated. I can provide more pictures once the dealer has sent them to me.

Greetings all, got an originality question on a Kreta Cuff title I recently bought. In all of the reference books I’ve looked and all of the wartime fotos I’ve seen the Kreta Cuff Title seems to be on cloth and the title "KRETA", the symbols next to the title and the borders top and bottom all seem to be in yellow thread. This one is on canvas, the borders top and bottom are in yellow but the title "KRETA" and the symbols on both sides are in a light green thread. I found one picture from an auction site that shows this color combination. Is this an original or a fake? Please let me know your opinion.
One of my (too many) interests is antique hurricane lanterns. I had a stroke of luck recently when I got a call from the local charity shop letting me know that two English lanterns had just arrived. I purchased them 15 minutes later and was thrilled to see that they are British Army lanterns by Chalwyn, a model called Tropic and also stamped with the broad arrow, catalogue number (J.A.12159) and year of manufacture (1952 and 1955-Mk2). I wish I could have asked the person who donated them about their history. Although grubby they seem to have cleaned up quite well. A little linseed oil seems to bring up the paint. Still fully functional over 60 years later!
If anyone has any military fuel-type lanterns then I would love to see them. I am also on the hunt for any in the Melbourne area.
