Note card, Adolf to Hermann 1942
I acquired this card several years ago, in fact it has been so long ago that I don’t recall where I got or what I paid for it. It purports to be a note from Adolf Hitler to Reichsmarschall Göring and his wife, thanking them and other guests for the warm welcome he got from everyone who attended the party to celebrate his 53rd birthday at Carinhall on 20 April 1942.
I have never believed that this note is genuine for two reasons. The first is the way the card is dated “im Berlin 1942.” It seems to me that had one of his secretaries typed this card she would have typed the exact date on which the note was written.
The second reason is, but I don’t know for sure, that on his 53rd birthday, 20 April 1942, Hitler was in his field HQ, Wolfsschanze, and not in Berlin, which would mean that he could not have attended a party in Carinhall.
I think that someone, probably an American soldier, found a stash of these blank cards, grabbed them for souvenirs, and years later someone typed in the message and added the Hitler signature. I am not a hand writing expert, so, what do any of you fellow members think; is this actually a thank you note from Adolf to Hermann, of a fantasy? PS. It was typed on a German typewriter because of the ß in Anlaß, and I have had this card since well before the PC word processoer was ubiquitous. Dwight
