The RAD Ableitung Common Mistakes
Hello, I have noticed for quite some time now the mistakes made when trying to identify Reischsarbeitsdienst Ableitung numbers for locations of certain areas, Honor Names ( Ehrenname ) and sleeve shields ( Dienstellenabzeichen ).
There is a common list that can be found on the internet that has some information but it is flawed and not up to date.
For instance, if one is seeking information about a photo and the Arbeitsmann has a sleeve shield of 1/231, most may believe it to be 1/231 Ohrdruf according to their list, that is simply false without any indicators of location in the photo and is purely a suggestion. During our studies we try to take it to another level by using period pics, postcards, archives and documents, much can be learned and discovered.
If we look at the below illustration we see on the left ‘The List’ as seen on the web and to the right our research, there is a considerable difference.. I have omitted the ‘Honor Names’ on one example. So, don’t be discouraged when trying to determine a specific region or group, there are Forums and Private Organizations that specialize in this type of research.
