Reference on authenticating the Kriegsmarine Bordmutze’s
Hey there guys
On the cloth headgear forum I have seen a increase of people asking if their Kriegsmarine Bordmutze is Real or Fake. Here is some advice as a Kriegsmarine specialist that I’d like to share. Before you post a possible unneeded thread. If you would like, put a black light on your cap (you can even do this with LED Lights). If it glows a lot its a fake and if its dull its original material. There is also doing a burn test. If you suspect your cap is a copy burn testing is a classic and easy technique to see if your cap is indeed made of real material. As in the 1940s cloth was virtually not messed with chemical wise. Just get a small thread from the cap and burn it over your sink. If it burns as fast as the wind its original. If it takes a little while its fake. I’d also like to note a lot of these original Bordmutze’s will look off because a lot where cheaply made French ones. Though not very useful for people confused on French made ones, I will include pictures of a supreme example I have of a German made Bordmutze. Hope you guys find usefulness out of this post.cool militaria
