Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse - Souval “98” comments please

Been eying this Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse Souval. Looks legitimate but I cannot make out the “98” marking on its ring - does not appear to be a “98.” Rest of the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse appears wartime Souval.
