My new K98

I just recently celebrated my 20th birthday, and my parents got me something amazing for this special occasion. A few weeks back I stumbled upon a beautiful K98 rifle at a local pawn shop. It was a Russian capture, but I must say it is one of the best looking RCs ive laid eyes on. I took advantage of the lay-a-way program they offer, and put some cash towards it. Well just recently my parents drove me down to the pawn shop, and paid off the remaining amount I had left to go. Definitely one of the best birthday presents ive received in years!

Anyways I thought I would share it with you guys. As I mentioned it is a Russian capture, but it has some very nice redeeming qualities. Its a 1940 dated 147 coded rifle. 147 is the code for the J.P. Sauer & Sohn factory in Germany. This company is one of the oldest firearm manufacturers in Germany, and they are still active till this day. Both swastikas are unmolested, this is a nice bonus as a good amount of RC K98s have them peened off. One thing that really surprised me was that the rifle had all of its accessories. When the Russians refurbished these, they almost always discarded the cleaning rod, sight hood, and capture screws. I believe the previous owner added these back to the rifle. The stock retains some faint cartouches, two eagles below an uppercase H. This means the stock was issued to the Wehrmacht.

The same day I got the rifle I actually found a bunch of K98 ammo pouches at an antique store. They were priced dirt cheap so I picked up quite a few. They all have very nice/clear maker marks. This was definitely a good birthday!

Best regards- Jarret
