Prototype PASGT 1970s
It finally arrived my prototype PASGT helmet. Ive done a bit of reading in my books and online but still unsure as to what type of material was used to make this. The prototype has a completely different feel to it compared to a normal PASGT. The prototype feels thinner but more dense and when you tap it, it sounds like a steel helmet whereas a PASGT sounds like you are tapping on wood if that makes sense? Where the paint has chipped away it is very shiny and almost looks like mother of pearl and you can see some type of criss crossed weave. Where it has really worn down I can feel something almost like a felt type material. The size on this helmet is indicated by a moulded letter L for size large and I weighed this prototype at 1592 grams compared to a size large devil Sioux 1985 PASGT at 1778 grams. The prototype is marked on the inside twice in white paint P3-43L which after seeing other examples stands for Prototype 3 - 43 Large the 43 being the batch number. I have tried to describe and use what information I could find to best describe this helmet but would really appreciate any additional information you could add to this helmet.
