Distinguished Service Cross - A pair
I put this WW1 DSC on layaway a few months back. When picked it up this afternoon, my friend also had a WW2 example…so I felt it only right to keep them together. cool militaria
Couldn’t say no, so I picked up the pair.
While the WW2 version is un-named, the WW1 is really special having both a name and number.
It is named to Corporal Edward S Blackman of Company G, 59th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, A.E.F. He was born in 1893 in Harvey Illinois but lived in Providence RI.
He received the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action in the Bois-du-Fays, France, on or about October 5, 1918. Corporal Blackman repeatedly volunteered to carry messages through intense barrages of artillery fire in order to obtain essential information and to keep his battalion commander informed as to the progress of the battle. While performing this mission, he was severely wounded and died later as a result of wounds received during this action.
The WW1 award shows signs of honest use and age. Great patina with the highpoints nice and bright. There is slight fading and a tear to the ribbon.
Here is the WW1 award.
