Waffen ss Artillerie - Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen
I was looking at various period photographs of waffen ss uniforms on the net reflecting Waffen SS Artillerie-Einheiten and was wondering why I had seen one or two photos showing SS artillerymen wearing Infanterie Abzeichen?
I thought they were only entitled to the Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen?
I assume the wearer must have previously served as infantry and hence the badge?
Also I would expect that most artillery personnel would have made at least 3 x engagements to be able to be recommended for the award of the General Assault Badge, so why is it that many "salty" Field blouses do not have loops to reflect this award?
I hope these aren’t stupid questions as i am slowly building up my collection of Waffen SS and Heer artillery uniform badges and insignia and as I am an ex-Australian Gunner, I have an interest in this field of collecting.
Many thanks for you perseverance with my queries if obvious to some on the forum.
Best regards,
Dave
