Book on Sir Arthur Roden Cutler VC, by Colleen McCullough
A bit harrowing too, where he was wounded in Syria fighting the Vichy French (mostly ex Foreign Legion soldiers), and spent
26 hours lying out on the battlefield with his badly wounded right leg (which would be amputated when he was found and
placed in a makeshift hospital), he had to fight exhaustion and blood loss, but kept a tourniquet tied around the leg above
the wound, and had to keep from passing out, or he would have simply bled to death.
He went on to a very highly praised life in the public service after he was discharged from the Military.
A good read if you can find a copy of the book….
