Question j?hz 1942 chintrap - repro?

Hey Gents,

I have had my doubts about this chinstrap since the moment getting it. I pulled it out for a closer look today and was surprised to find remnants of grey paint on the lesser worn areas of the buckle. I now am leaning more towards authentic. I don’t have any reference to the maker in Ken N.’s book.

So, any thoughts or opinions?
