Picked up a Butcher Bayonet Today at A Local Antique Shop
I went out antiquing today and hit a small shop that I had never stopped at before. I asked the owner if he had any militaria, and he brought out this bayonet - A German WW I Butcher Blade. The scabbard was rough, with a good bit of surface rust, but the bayonet itself is in really nice shape - someone put a heavy coat of grease on it - I have removed some, but some of the brown stains can still be seen in my pictures. The bayonet was made by Deutsche Maschinenfabrik, and is dated 1916. The shop owner wanted $150, but I talked him down to $80. This is my first German Bayonet of the WW I period - how did I do?
