Unknown use ww2 leather bound box?

Hi All

Ive had this for years and never really given it much tought as I just use it to store some of my old military bumf in. Can anyone tell me what it might be for please? I suspect its ww2 though may be ww1, Its WD arrow marked and lined in steel. Grenade box maybe?
