German peak cap.

I bought this cap for a fiver from a women’s vintage clothes shop after seeing a beret in the window. It is in remarkably good condition apart from the obvious peak mishap and is dated 1939. It was hanging up minus the peak and I just assumed it was a fancy dress prop until I saw the makers mark on the inside of the sweatband. I asked after the peak but the girl said that’s how she found it. I posted some pictures on a German cap forum with the intention of trying to buy a replacement peak from someone when the unexpected occured. I went back into the shop for a browse months later and the girl produced the peak from behind the counter. She said she’d found it at the bottom of a bag and kept it for me. How they’d become seperated I don’t know. It’s been sitting in a box ever since. It just needs a sypathetic repair and the badges replaced. Would it have had some sort of strap? Cheers.
