Silver pins B&C1943

I’ve never seen such pins before. They are covered with some silver layer (not a paint). Could they be originally made like this? they are marked: B&C 1943. What kind of helmet could they be attached to? I thought to remove this silver layer, add some rust and attach them to one of my semi-relic m42. What do you think?
