Seriously your help is needed!!!
In the attached photos you will see a number of pairs of shoulder boards and collar patches, initially they look ok, but as you go through the pictures you will see that they have really been mistreated. They wer at one time on display in a museum here on the Island. The owner of the museum put them on display but in order to do so he decided in his wisdom to glue the items back to back and then removing any pip or other device from one of the boards proceeded to glue the boards to the display board. I can hear you cries of NOOOooooo from here. This all happened in the 60’s so I gues back then the items did not have the value or historic interest that they would have today if they were perfect.
I am looking to move them on, but would anyone collect them in the condition they are in. One board would look ok once split from the other with a little damage to its underside. And I am sure someone may have the time, patience and inclination to sit with some chemical which may disolve the glue but that chap is not me. They have to be worth something!!!!, so what I am asking is what do you guys think they are worth and do you know someone who may be interested in them. I bought them in a lot and in my view they are ruined but I still cannot bring myself to just put them in the bin. Perhaps a budding conservator might like to invest in them and try his hand at bringing them back to life. Maybe a collector starting out may see them as a beginning. If anyone out there knows or thinks they know what would be a fair value for them then please let me know.
I bought a large box of insignia that came from this old museum, luckily out of 160 pieces these were the worst. I will be posting some of the others shortly when I have worked my way through them all.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on these.
All the best,
D.
