When I was a kid (mid 70’s) I met a fellow in Wiesbaden Germany by the name of Hauf. He gave me his Iron Cross 1st Class (still in box) and his silver wound badge. He said he received his decorations for hand-to-hand combat while in Russia. He also showed me his 4 bullet wounds. Based on this scant info 1.) Iron cross 1st class recipient, 2. lived in Wiesbaden, 3. fought on the Russian front 4.) Survived the war. Is there any strategies you recommend to get more info on this individual?
