Ammunition box dump - UNBELIEVABLE SITE !!! June 2011

Hi all

Well, you’re not going to believe the site that has recently been discovered by one of the RRPG group members, LUCKYSTRIKE. With it being some distance from where he lives, I went to recon the site today and WHAT A SITE !!!!!!!!!!!

I did absolutely no digging due to my back being bad, and took my son with me to carry stuff around, should we find anything.

The site has been well dug over by what we think are bottle hunters. The volume of WW2 stuff just lying on the surface told me that they weren’t at all interested in it. They have obviously spent some time there, with a winding trench of perhaps 50 feet in length going through the dump.

You’re not going to believe the site, and what I took home with me after precisely ONE HOUR at the site.

The exact location will be revealed to the RRPG group members in the RRPG forum later today. If you want to know where it is, all you have to do is join our group !

Here we go……..

There were lots of these. Thought they might be water tanks from a water cooled MG so took three :)

Attachment 212811

Pull through brushes……..bucket fulls of them

Attachment 212804

I think these may be pull through rods.

Attachment 212819

303 Drill rounds. Of the ones with visible dates, they appear dated between 1941 and 1943.

Attachment 212809

Didn’t know what these were until I cleaned them….see further down the thread to see what they are !!! :)

Attachment 212818

Various bits I’ve got to clean and ID

Attachment 212816

Lee-Enfield butt plates, strewn across the site. Amazing.

Attachment 212813

I was so eager I cleaned a few of the bits as soon as I got in. Along with the drill rounds, also found a ribbed drill and a 30cal spent case.

Attachment 212812

Trigger gauges. I thought the were detonators when I first started finding them then realised they weren’t. ID’d them after cleaning a couple :D :D

Whitehunter and LS are visiting the site as well so I can’t wait to see what they bring back.

The sheer volume of stuff here is amazing and I shall be returning VERY soon !
