Erel Alter Art (Crusher) Cap

One of my first ever purchases.

A Robert Lubstein made cap in the style of a "crusher" cap but it’s not a true Alter Art Feldmutze. This one was made as a high end dress cap and not meant to be folded up or used in field conditions. It has a regular card pasteboard and although its very lightweight, it’s also padded which gives it a lovely shape around the crown. The leather peak is not heavily coated in thick bitchumen like it’s feldmutze cousins. It just has a thin layer of lacquer that has crazed in a lovely patina. This cap was no doubt owned by a well to do Officer who wanted to impress his superiors and the ladies and not bought to wear in the trenches.

I’m not totaly sure of the piping colour to be honest. I would say Artillery red that has sun faded to orange but it’s quite difficult to be 100% sure. Condition is excellent, used but not abused with just a few moth nips on the top panel. I did have to sew a few stitches around 10% of the band where the original stitches had come loose. Without this work, the whole band might slowly come off the cap. These stitches however, were sewn very loosely so they can be easily removed to return the cap to it’s 100% as found condition if need be. The band itself is very, very thin leather, split in 2 places and needs very careful handling but it’s amasing that it’s still there at all.

I hate to see this beauty go but at the same time, I dont have the space to display as I would want anymore. If one of you guys with super collection rooms can do it proud, that would make me a very happy man.

I’m asking £1500, no offers please. I’m not going to haggle on this one.
