Anyone give me an idea what it is?

Just took delivery of a Gas Mask Canister. Now I was told it was german but I am not sure, it damned huge!

Anyways here is some pics, next to my 1937 german can. What do you guys thing? Is it german and is it a gas canister. I have an feeling it Belgian.
