Pictures of Gestapo Men

I have only seen a few that have been positively attributed to Gestapo men (outside of i.d. docs). This is a group of them pictured during the "white buses" action in 1945. Note that they appear to be in their 40's and 50's:

Fake alert FAKE World War I Imperial German Flight Badges

This thread is not about trashing the individual who may be selling the wings we post, it is about educating ourselves so when we do see them on sites, we can steer clear of them. There is a lot of deliberate "crookery" that happens - true, however sellers in some cases may really not know that what they are selling is bad. As Oddball would say "Don't hit me with them negative vibes man".

There are literally thousands of supposed original Imperial Flight badges that have been, and continue to be purchased on ebay and other venues. Research, and handling actual period examples are invaluable tools to prevent you from becoming of those clueless individuals that pays hundreds or thousands of dollars for a fake.

I am posting known fakes of these badges. Some of these badges are very convincing, and some are extremely crude.

My Great Uncle, William Whiteside

My Uncle Bill was a dentist before the war and enlisted right away. He left Canada a captain with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry in WW2. Lots of action over in Europe, in particular Holland. He brought the Rileys home as a Lt. Col and paraded them through Hamilton.

My father has told me one story about Uncle Bill that I have always liked. His unit was pinned down just outside a town in Holland, hunched down in the ditches on either side of a road. The German fire was brutal, as they were waiting for the Canadians to try to take the village. There was a huge blast from some sort of tank or arty that blew a cloud of cement down the road. As the cloud was blowing past, all of the troops were excited to see a fat pig coming down the road, running from the excitement. Captain Whiteside left the ditch, tackeled the pig, slit its throat, and landed in the ditch on the other side. They all were more concerned that another shell blast, and they would lose the pig, than for their own safety.
This story I actually read about years later in the regimental history of the Rileys. It's sugar coated a bit, and it says that later that day, Dr. Whiteside was giving and anatomy lesson to his troops with a deceased pig.

I guess when the military says "anatomy lesson"... the civilian term for it would be "splashy bar-b-que".

This is him with his men going through Holland. He's the good looking cat in the front with the Clark Gable pencil mustache, closest to the camera.

WW II Canadian Uniforms

Just thought i would post. Quite a detailed collection with all the gear. I took this picture at a Military show a few years ago in Toronto. This was a few collectors showing off their collections. I wish I had the cash, and the space to have a collection like this.

SA Cuff Title - BeVo & RZM label - “Ordensburgen”

Hello All,

I like the early SA cuff titles. They're an interesting item. However, I know very little about them.

Does anyone know the approximate date to which this cuff title applies?

What event does it commemorate?

What is the rarity factor on the early SA cuff titles?

Best Regards
