My apologies if this is in the wrong place. Someone was asking about this engagement - but I cannot locate the post/postee.
He said that this took place on 18th December near St. Vith.
I have the After Action Report for the 87th Cavalry Recon Sq for December 1944 and although the narrative includes the battle for St. Vith and Viesalm there is no mention of a Tiger being dispatched by an M8. It may be that this information did not reach Major Kaiser the Co of the unit - but if it did happen then I find it odd that he failed to mention it?
I have recently purchased a wehrpass to a Luftwaffe soldier who in 1945 was transferred to the infantry and fought near Stettin on the Oder.
I was hoping someone would be able to help me with deciphering which unit(s) he was with during the last months of the war. Of course any other information would be most welcome.
This is my first time to look at one of these so I do not know what it’s official name is or where it should be posted. I trust someone will help me. I have my doubts about this as I compare it to others but I really do enjoy reading your responses. I am always learning. Please share your insight. Sorry the pictures are not the best. It is posted locally.
Pleased to say that my new book ‘SS Helmets - The History, Use and Decoration of the Helmets of the Black Corps’ by Michael Beaver with Kelly Hicks was delivered to me yesterday.
It’s quite a large book, well finished with tons of photos of SS helmets. As it is quite a niche subject it can cover a wide range of SS helmets including as expected photos of a large number of decals (including controversial Champagne runes).
Fortunately it wasn’t hideously expensive - almost normal book price at £45.
I’m looking forward to browsing through this over the next few days for sure.
Finally i got my first,i believe, japan era occupation photo in Indonesia. This kind of photo is really scarce or even rare.
Although the photo is not in perfect condition, but it’s really curious to see both Japanese military personnel intermingle with their Indonesian counterpart in here.
The proud and cheerful gocho or heicho (i think). And he lost a front tooth. :p
Unfortunately, the other Japanese didn’t wore any rank badge.
Interestingly, the corporal wore a badge. And curiously too, the indonesian wore a lighter colored cap but with different kind of cap badge.
So is anyone know what cap badge in here? From the shape is similar with the mitsubishi logo. Is it just me or the round badge on the corporal is a bit similar with the cap badge worn by the indonesian in here? Could it be the gocho-heicho is somekind of foreman for the indonesian in here?
