RAF Service tunic O.A

Does anyone know if there was a field dressing pocket in the post war RAF O.A Service tunic. I have one with staybrite buttons and buckle, and shoulder titles with grey background and a worn out date label and no issue stamp. Any help would be appreciated.

Romanian Para Helmet M73

Here’s another piece from my Warsaw Pact sub-collection;

An M73 Para helmet in very good condition.

It is very similar in general appearance to the Polish WZ-63 but does seem to be of less “robust” quality.

The shell is similar to the standard M73/80 as if it could be a truncated version of the same profile.

The liner is of very soft and thin (much thinner than the Polish version) black leather which is very comfortable but I doubt it would take very much punishment.

The rimless shell is of a thinner guage than most steel helmets and I am suspicious of the level of ballistic protection provided.

The net which is permanantly attached during assembly (it is fitted between the shell and liner) is quite delicate and would rip very easily in use.

Inside the shell and under the liner is a worsted wool “crown” which can only serve as an insulating layer.

All in all an interesting piece and I am sure the troops wearing it felt they “cut a dash” in the looking cool elite forces stakes at home but from a soldiers viewpoint I wouldn’t thank you for it as a combat helmet!

Somerset Light Infantry FS cap

among two group of items I found yesterday, a coloured FS cap for the Somerset Light Infantry. It is rifles green with brass rifles buttons to the front and an OR’s white metal badge on a slider. It is quite greasy inside from hair cream and has no markings as these were private purchase so no WD arrow etc. The exterior was also dirty/dusty and a gentle wipe down with a damp sponge has sorted that.

Description: Hitler Profile Portrait Plaque.
Round. Looks and feels like bronze but I am not sure. It is certainly heavy enough to be bronze.
It is a good size and measures approx. 18cms (7.25 inches) in diameter and has a fixed angled point on which it can be hung. A good likeness and very good all round condition. I can find no artists/makers signature. Please see photos for confirmation of description.

RAAF OA Peaked Cap and Cover

My newest piece of RAAF flying clothing arrived today, an Other Airmen’s peaked cap complete with a khaki cover. To be honest I have not seen very many photos of OA peaked caps, mainly Officer’s caps and a few WO’s versions. How common are OA caps?

It has a nicely readable tag inside indicating it was manufactured in 1945. While it does need bit of repair, the visor requires a stitch or two on the left side, I am very pleased to add it to my collection.

Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber - opinions?

And another! The camera is unable to capture the color properly. It’s silver. You see some gold(ish) color shining through the silver finish at the various high points where it’s been worn off. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
