Just thought I´d share this SS cap with you. I bought it from UoE about a week ago and yesterday I got it delivered to my front door. There was a fair amount of drama during the delivery when the DLH courier tried to deliver the package to two different (wrong) addresses before finally finding the right door.

The cap is in quite worn condition throughout. I guess it´s a matter of taste but I prefer it that way. A few small moth holes here and there, but generally in much better condition than I thought. The field grey wool shows much use to the crown, and leading edge, where it comes off to the head. The the lining too heavily-soiled from use (especially in the front part of the cap).

There seems to be writing (possibly initials) on the inside of the cap.

I got this from a friend of mine who said it was all original when he got it but replaced the helmet liner The paint job looks original and so does the dome stamp. the liner chinstrap and pins I beileve are all replacements. Any help with the paint would be great I am not to familiar with reissues but it looks like a few online I saw. The lot and makers mark are to hard to see under the thick paint but my friend believed it was a Q66.

We have all seen numerous Type 95s with brass-colored tsukas. Most are fakes and have many other signs proving them to be so. But I have a Nagoya side-latch that I KNOW is legit, yet the tsuka has that yellowish, brassish tint to it.

Well, I was examining another guy’s 95 on the facebook page that has this tint too, but everything else looks pretty good. In the discussion I was asked for some pics of my Nagoya. WELL … after taking some pics and seeing some close-ups, I realized that where the surfaces get rubbed or contacted a lot, the yellowish coloring is rubbed off and it is clear the handle is real aluminum!

So, something along the way has caused the surface to yellow - possibly a chemical reation to the original paint-job? possible oxidation for an aluminum type that yellows this way?

It has made me more cautious, now, to jump to conclusions about other 95s just because of the brassish color to a tsuka. There must be other indications about fakery before I’ll label somebody’s 95 as a fake.
