Picked up this used Marlin 1895 in Govt 45/70 cal.been looking for one,got 400.00 in it.Here in Iowa you can used a bottle neck hi power cartridge for deer.But you can use a straight casing or a shotgun slug.Guess because its too flat a terrain here,a 30 06 will carry for miles.Anyway will try it on the season coming up in Dec.I hunt on my property and it brusy with timber so shots are not that long range.Anyway should do the job,kind of a neat cartridge been around a long time as I have a 1875 trapdoor that is chambered in 45/70.Dont want to shoot it but it would probably work fine!

Enlisted ranks dress helmet for the light batteries of the 3rd Artillery Regiment. Stamped under sweatband Horstmann , Philadelphia, March 4, 1899.
Many of these were never worn or issued, such as this one, I believe.
Still need to locate a chinstrap.
