New Member

I am originally from central Louisiana but living in north Florida near my wife’s home town of Bell. We have five horses, chickens, Guinea fowl, ducks, several dogs and a few cats in the mix! I am a former soldier of 21 yrs & my wife and I are former Peace Officers.

Eickhorn short police bayonet.

Hi, This is my police bayonet by Eickhorn I believe these were made during the third Reich as opposed to cut down Weimar types it has plated aluminium hilt that has lost a fair bit of it’s plating which I think is common for these with Staghorn grips and aluminium grip eagle. The scabbard is a dark brown leather with the frog stud being painted dark brown and the frog is also brown leather does this make it Rural Police? It is listed in the Eickhorn catalogue as item 1320 and designated "Extra:Seitengewehr". The blade is not brilliant as there is wear to the plating but no damage or nicks I think the trademark is the post 1941 Eickhorn trademark? The troddel I think is correct but not 100% sure? it certainly seems to have always been on this frog. All comments/opinions welcome.
Thanks, Andy.

Nagoya Army Type 14 Rig

I picked up this rig along with a type 94 rig. This one has matching internals except for the striker follower and cocking knob. They are number to each other but not to the gun. The grip panels are void of any serial numbers and only the left one has some type of marking as shown but cannot read. I tried to show the fit in the pics but not easy for me to do. The fit of the grip to the gun is rather rough. I do not know if these are original or replaced at some point. Does not seem like it would be a Japanese Army repair but I cannot explain the cocking knob and striker follower either. The magazine matches last three numbers with the second mag pin punch. The mag inspector marking looks correct to me. The rig also came with a spare striker that has a serial number on it that does not match the gun.
The holster is in good shape with good markings.
I have a couple of questions that I could not figure out in the Derby and Brown book are.
Should the grip panels been serial numbered to the gun?
Field replacement or post was messing with?
The bolt is blued. Should it be?
Help with the holster date markings please.
All opinions are appreciated. Thank you for looking.
John

Mk IV ‘Special T’ Respirator

Hello folks.

This is a rather rare type of British service respirator, which I managed to secure for a more than reasonable price. It is also somewhat of an oddity, as I will detail below.

Modeled on the standard Mk IV service respirator, the Special T-Mic was a variant of the mask designed for use primarily by radio operators, although they were issued to men who wore spectacles as well. Prior to the introduction of the Mk V respirator, there was no provision on service masks for the attachment of a microphone. This was remedied with the ‘Special T’ model, which featured the addition of a microphone port on the left cheek of the facepiece. This was sealed with a bakelite plug when not in use.

This mask is a large size. The facepiece was made by Avon, as with many of these masks, and bears the manufacture date of 22nd December 1942, a very late date for this mask type. These respirators were declared largely obsolete in January 1943, when the Light Anti-Gas respirator first entered service. The Mk V remained in service, and was issued to left-handed shooters whose aiming was impeded by the side-mounted filter on the ‘L.A.G.’ mask.

The oddity in this case is the haversack. Most service respirator haversacks of this period feature a manufacturer and date stamp on the inside of the main flap, typically ‘W&G’ or ‘M&Co.’ This one is undated, and marked by the manufacturer ‘Siebe Gorman & Co.’ I have not previously encountered a haversack by this manufacturer, and was under the impression that they mainly produced civilian masks such as the Civilian Duty.

A very unusual addition to my service respirator collection.

Also worth noting, all British masks using the hose and ‘red brick’ filter combination contain crocidolite, or blue asbestos. I have sealed the mask as per the Imperial War Museum-recommended method, using PVA wood glue poured into the filter. This has created a plastic film across the inlet, and has rendered the mask safe for future generations of collectors to enjoy. All of my British gas masks undergo the same procedure.

SS belt buckle 822/38 Original or copy?

Good evening,

I would like to know your opinions about this buckle. Is it genuine or fake one? It looks good to me, but I am really far from sure regarding that. Pictures are from the seller and currently these are only photos which I have.

Kindest regards
