The basketweave with silver inner cord. Typically these inner silver cords are made in the soutache pattern, which is V shaped. They were made and used during the Third Reich, as there are numerous documented pieces in collections. All of that said, the Waffen SS did not seem to vary as much in the style of Generals shoulderboards that were used. Typically they all look like the boards on the picture below utilizing a matte gold that by now has age darkened. Of course, they also used celleon boards, like all of the other armed services, but for whatever reason most of what you encounter in SS Generals boards, either in period photos, loose insignia or uniforms, is that matte gold. So, boards like these with the basketweave will be approached with caution by most advanced SS collectors as not being typical of what you encounter with SS .which is true. Im sure this style has also been copied, so one has to proceed with caution like with anything else. Personally, I wouldnt buy them in that style for SS, but that is just my choice.
Standard SS TYPE.
Unfortunately I left my only German WWII helmet in the solution for too long, if any of the original paint was there, it isn’t now but if I can find another cheap relic I’ll give it another go. I’m a WWI collector so have little to no experience with WWII gear, especially German so if I’m wrong in calling this relic a M40 please let me know.
I forgot to take before pics so those below are from after it came out of the bucket and was scrubbed with a brush, and then immediately after a light coating of linseed oil.

Description: Nice looking uniform of a Revierfoerster including a jacket, trousers and medal bar.
Unfortunatly the medal bar is missing two medals. According to the ribbons they are ritterkreuz second class Zähringer Löwe and the brons Regierungsjubiläumsmedaille von Baden, they are not that expensive and quiet easy to find.
The jacket sufferd a few moth attac’s, but it only resulted in a few little holes. It has stains on the shouderpieces and a few button’s sufferd due to age. The trousers are ok.
The medals on the bar are; WWI EK II, the Hindenburg medal, the Treue Dienst medal and a Treue Diensten Landwehr II class medal.
Also included is the black verwundetenabzeichen.
Owner initials are JM and can be found in the jacket and the trousers.
