WWI MK1 Helmet British / Canadian / or ???

Hello all,

I bought this MK1 helmet (marked FKS 24) a couple of years ago. I noticed that there appears to be a blue painted "shield" marking under the white paint. I have attached a photo showing what I think it looks like. Also, the interior has a unique gray/silver’ish painted rim over the original green paint. Probably a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone might recognize the possible shield marking and/or have come across a similar painted helmet before? A member of the US Militaria Forum mentioned that it might be from the 3rd Canadian Division immediately after the Armistice, but I haven’t been able to confirm any of that.
Thanks!

GS or Nebel… it’s a cap anyway.

The show must go on. I need to stay in stonemint’s good graces if I am to expect continued expertise from him. :p

I purchased this one a few years ago with the seller claiming the piping is Bordeauxrot for Nebeltruppen. When it arrived and I beheld it in person, I thought of it as more of a Karmesinrot (albeit on the dark side) for General Staff or Veterinary. I pulled out my Veterinary and Nebel caps and it seems closer to the Veterinary. Maybe I’m just color blind. What say the esteemed members of our forum?

Maybe this collection is worth looking through!

The knife with the clear handle looks pretty unique - help with the markers mark? i cant read it. All images should be expandable - I was also wondering the maker of the usn kbar? most of the name has been worn off but any thoughts on any of them are welcome - which is your favorite!

Need help! Interesting 1935/1936 Amba Aradam Medal-16th Alpini Regimet?

I recently received this medal from a gentleman in Italy. We were working out a trade for some German items I had and he decided to throw this medal in with his offer. I am not a huge collector of Italian militaria, and this medal is one of the few pieces I have. As such I know very little about these types of medals, and I was only able to locate one other one for sale online. When I researched the regiment I found that it was a relatively short-lived one, and that was really the extent of what I found.

There is a space on the obverse of the medal for what would look to be a name, suggesting these could be personalized. I understand that Amba Aradam was a battle during the Second Italo-Abyssinian War that took place in February of 1936.

If any knowledgeable collector would be able to give me some additional information about this medal I would be greatly appreciative. It is quite thin for a medal, and it would appear to be silver plate. I’ll include some pictures as well as a copy of the wording on both sides of the medal. Thanks!

The front reads:

1848-49
1855-1859-1860-1861
1866-1870
1913-14-1915-18
1935-1936

The rear reads:

12-15 Febbraio 1936
Amba Aradam
Novara Palestro
Sassari Redipvglia
Polazzo
Levani Saban

I included a picture with a pen to give an idea of size.

Need help! Unique French/Belgian M15 Helmet with British Liner and Unusual Badge! Identification Help!!

Hello everyone,

I recently picked up this very interesting First World War M15 Adrian helmet off of eBay and let me tell you, I am stumped. Heres why:

1) I’m not sure what to make of the badge on the front. This is the first time I have seen anything like it, and I’m not sure where to place it. The lion motif would suggest Belgian, and some other Belgian badges I have researched look somewhat similar, but I have yet to find an exact match. It seems to have been on there for some time, as when I tried to remove it the prongs nearly snapped and the whole thing was stuck to the shell, so I left it as is.

2) The paint on the helmet looks to be very similar to that used on colonial helmets, and let me tell you what a rough paint job it is. This was definitely painted in this mustard greenish-yellow color several times, and in some spots you can see traces of the original horizon blue paint. Even the interior of the helmet is painted in this color, with the inside dome of the helmet being much neater than anywhere else. The crest looks to have been removed when everything was painted.

3) There is set of two small holes on the one side of the shell, that look deliberate but could be random and just happen to be neatly aligned.

4) I saved the best for last. Instead of the standard French or Belgian liners (the seller said it was possibly Belgian), this helmet has a British Brodie helmet liner in it. The liner is extremely delicate, but it is glued to the inner rim of the helmet and was done so very sloppily. I have never seen anything like this at all, and it’s caused me to have some doubts about this whole piece.

So let me tell you what I think this could be. (Mind you this is only an educated guess). I think there is a reasonable chance that this helmet found its way to Africa, where it served with some colonial force and was put through its paces, being repainted over and over again until it found its way out of service. As to why there is a British liner in it I have no clue, but it would make some sense if this African theory is true.

Alas, I have little other information outside of what I can see, so I again turn to the knowledgeable members of the forum to get any sort of input you can offer. If nothing else, any help identifying the badge would help me find the right direction to continue my research. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
