value on USMCR helmet with info

Hey guys, its been a long while since ive been back on the forum but i can say that over the last year or teo ive been able to pick up alot of nice lids. One lid that ive had for a while now is a USMC helmet with a vietnam pot, ww2 liner, and ww2 cover. One side of the pot says the soldiers name and his service number, and the other says "2nd recon". I was curious about this and researched a bit and found some info on his service and even a photo. I was wondering what you guys think a fair value of this helmet is with the research it has now, thank you.

US M4 Bayonet Imperial

Hello everyone

I recently purchased this US M4 Bayonet, wartime manufactured by Imperial with M8A1 scabbard, 1950s manufactured by Victory Plastics. It has three strange X marks under the cross guard which I’ve not seen before, anyone seen these before?. I picked it up fairly cheaply compared to what these usually go for.

Any comments welcome.

Alex

Boer War British .303 H3 Ammunition Box

I just received this British Ammunition Box from South Africa this afternoon. I believe it is a H3 box, though I am not sure if it is a Mk I, II, or III.

1015827

The label on the lid is very faded, but follows the same basic pattern as a loading stamp on a .303 Bandolier. As far as a can tell, it reads “840 ~ CARTRIDGES ~ S.A. BALL ~ .303 Inch ~ CORDITE ~ 25 / 11 / 99 (inside the boxes) ~ Mark IV (?)” Additionally, there are small broad arrows surmounting the letters “ILS”. I believe this stands for "Inspector, Land Service" and it can also be seen on early 303 bandoliers from 1914/15. This changed during the Great War to "ISAA" for "Inspector, Small Arms Ammunition" after the Inspection Department had been reorganized.

1015828

So the box was originally made in 1899, but the lid is also stamped “100 ~ REPKD ~ 14/4/05 ~ CORDITE ~ BATCH 1007”, so the box was reloaded in 1905.

1015829

The lid is an Isosceles Trapezoid, so it stays in place when closed. I believe that there was originally a brass peg or cotter pin that held it in place, but this has long since disappeared.

1015830

Inside the wood box is the original tin that would have held the ammunition. I’m not certain what the string was for, but it may have held the pin that secured the lid and a key to open the interior tin lining.

1015831

The sides of the box have their original spliced rope handles along with the original load date of November 11, 1899.

Additionally, each side has a large paper label with the symbol for “cartridge, small arm, ball” (a rectangle with a line through it) along with “CORDITE” in both boxes.

1015834

The front of the box has a large letter ‘H’ deeply carved into the wood (possibly because it is an H3 box). There are also a number of deteriorated paper labels, including another symbol for “cartridge, small arm, ball”. There is also a large number ‘1’ inside a diamond with the words “SAFETY CARTR…” below.

1015835

The back of the box has a number of letters stamped on it. I can only make out “H.M.S.” and “GOVT”. There is also a Broad Arrow, which I think was originally flanked by the letters ‘B’ and ‘O’, but I can’t be sure.

The bottom of the box has felt pads, but I think these were a later addition.

Need help! First time helmet buyer

Hi all, new member alert but reading loads of posts an excellent site full of info. Looked on here for reputable helmet dealers and although I’m from the UK the best dealers are in the US, found myself a helmet I’m interested in buying from,

Germanhelmetsinc.com (number 819 about 3rd of the way down the original helmets for sale page) for $650 which isn’t a lot I know but I would like an original worth what I pay.

I really would appreciate some opinions on the helmet, I believe it only has a maker stamp not a batch code and no stamps on the liner, would this be normal on an original helmet?

Thanks in advance, Andre

nskk gorget opinions

have you ever seen this variation. is it authentic ww2 ……thanks

Question My First Nahkampfspange - Is it “Real?”

As you can see, this is an unmarked "bronze" example I just acquired from a collector/dealer I’ve done satisfactory business with in the past and he thought it was "good", but I don’t really know what to look for on these. He also thought the maker (if it IS okay) might be identified by the details. Any thoughts or information would be most welcome!
