Christmas homecoming

A merry Christmas and happy new year to my son and nephew. Trey and Jesse got to enjoy the holidays with family and for that I am grateful. Trey (army) will be headed to Afghanistan soon and Jesse (air force) is leaving for aviano Italy even sooner. Best wishes to them and we are so proud.

MkII Canadian Sand Textured Helmet

Merry Christmas everyone,

I wanted to share my last aquisition of 2016, a Mkll, Sand Textured, Canadian ‘G.S.W.’ General Steel Wear Co. helmet, dated 1942, with a size 7 1/8 liner maker marked ‘V.S.M.’ for Viceroy Manufacturing Company dated 1942, named to L-466126 Henry Martin Hicke, Bayard Saskatchewan, HQ Coy. Mark, thanks for your guidance and help on this one. It was appreciated.

The service number suggests Henry was likely with a reserve unit located in Military District 12, Saskatchewan. I believe Mr. Hicke passed away in November, 1998 and is buried in Spring Valley Saskatchewan. He may have remained in Canada for the duration of the war but won’t know for sure until full access to service records is available.

Happy New Year,

KD

Regio Esercito Captain M34 Uniform

Hello to all,
here is a M34 uniform for Officer Chemist Pharmacist belonged to a Captain of the Florence Military Chemical Pharmaceutical Plant in WW2 period, the conditions are very good and it was made with high-quality material, probably in a private tailoring.
In my opinion are very beautiful also the two visor caps from private purchase in German style with a raised front; unfortunately for a reason unknown to me have been taken to both the strips with ranks cap, I could easily replace them but I prefer leave it as I found them, and in my opinion this does not detract from their beauty.
I hope it is interesting and every opinion is welcome.

Regards
Roberto

81mm Mortar L54A1

I picked up two of these at a local auction on a whim… I assume 1950’s? The description claimed they were deactivated - someone I know questioned this and it got me wondering, how do I know they are and could active mortars easily get onto the open market?
