My overall opinion is that it’s a put together bar:
-I cannot find the name in the list on this Angloboarwar site:
Anglo Boer War website - Name search
-I can find the name for the WW1 trio:
The National Archives | Search results:dickson 6866
By the looks of it a POW in ww1:

- The medal obverse seems soft on details to me, and I’m not sure if it’s even composed of the right metal. Overall it had a light feeling in weight. ( I know I’m missing the important reverse of the medal, I took the picture but it was blurred)
- The clasp joints look sloppy.
- Engraving of the name doesn’t seem to match the examples of the time.
Anglo Boer War website - Queen’s South Africa Medal naming styles
- Would Dickson still be a private when receiving the WW1 trio, some 14 years later?
-The bar isn’t really joined together by a bar, but a fabric strip attaching them all together. This may be period, but I have never seen it in person.
Looking for some reassurance that I did the right thing by walking away from it.
Thank you,

Description: Hello all,
Here’s your chance to own a fantastic Luftwaffe M42 combat helmet. This NS64 is complete with dome stamp and shows honest wear throughout. The decal would rate at excellent and shows a truly honest patina. What’s interesting about this example is the liner string was period replaced with a shoelace.

I call these the "M-45" Erels, as most were found unissued at the end of the war.
They share common characteristics, and differ from their earlier brethren in the following ways:
1. Instead of having Vulkanfiber visors, they are made of compressed, laquered paper ("lackierte pappschirm");
2 They lack the Erel "air cushion" sweatband;
3. The sweatbands are often (but not always) marked "Clemens Wagner 1938" (my theory is that Erel bought new old stock intended for CW);
4. They use a heavy ribbed Trikot for the body of the hats;
5. The crowns of the hats are smaller;
6. The peaks are lower;
7 The sweatbands lack the standard Erel patent markings;
8. The Erel/OKK logo is not foiled in (and is very hard to see);
9. The rayon is very thin, almost translucent
10. Most are mint and unissued (it is my opinion that they were found by Allied soldiers when they came upon an OKK outlet);
11. Many have the sweatband attachments on the side (vs the rear with a bow);
12. Some have factory-installed bullion wreaths;
13. They have no grade classification (ie, Standard/Extra/Privat).
