– Came upon this rare Weyersberg cracker locally and could not pass up the opportunity to own one of these beautiful daggers. Everything is as it should be and overall the condition is excellent, save for some marring on the scabbard but that was typical on these things with the chain constantly chaffing it. The only scoff I have is whether or not the portapee is original. I’ve seen other examples online with the orange braiding so it could very well be authentic and period.

Artifices having been used partly by the Luftwaffe and aiming to mark a ground, to communicate with a device at low altitude, etc …
These had to be fired at a very flat angle so that the smoke dissipated as little as possible with the wind.
Their introduction into the army would date from 1940 but this without any certainty given the lack of documentation of time that has been identified.

Smoke-like artifact composed of a case of 83mm light alloy and a base with smooth bead and a waxed cardboard cover with 4 yellow squares arranged in a cross ..
The case receives as marking 4 yellow stripes a width of 1cm while the base can be marked either 4 yellow bands every 90 degrees, or a cross of the same
color where only the center would remain original. On this type of projectile, the name of the cartridge, the year of production, and the manufacturer are
affixed in black. The effect is 4 yellow smoke trail about 60 meters.
