Hey there guys
On the cloth headgear forum I have seen a increase of people asking if their Kriegsmarine Bordmutze is Real or Fake. Here is some advice as a Kriegsmarine specialist that I’d like to share. Before you post a possible unneeded thread. If you would like, put a black light on your cap (you can even do this with LED Lights). If it glows a lot its a fake and if its dull its original material. There is also doing a burn test. If you suspect your cap is a copy burn testing is a classic and easy technique to see if your cap is indeed made of real material. As in the 1940s cloth was virtually not messed with chemical wise. Just get a small thread from the cap and burn it over your sink. If it burns as fast as the wind its original. If it takes a little while its fake. I’d also like to note a lot of these original Bordmutze’s will look off because a lot where cheaply made French ones. Though not very useful for people confused on French made ones, I will include pictures of a supreme example I have of a German made Bordmutze. Did they put decals generally on these later helmets?I was talking to a guy said all m42 helmets with decals were added post war,guy is full of beans.Anyone have any period pics of m42s with decal to show?I know this helmet with decal was brought back by the vet as I bought it from his son;)
