Need help! British Red Tunic

Hello, I’ve had this red dress tunic for a very long time. When I got it it had no buttons, I sewed on on General Service buttons but now I would like to restore it properly with the correct buttons.

So does anyone know which Regiment this tunic belongs to? Is it a musicians tunic?

Any help appreciated, Doug

A Pair of Mk Vs

Hello folks.

Bought these two a few months apart. Two bog standard Mk V service respirators, probably the most common on the UK market. And, I’d imagine, the most numerously produced military model. One has its original hose, covered with green stockinette. The other is uncovered, an indicator that it was armoury-replaced at some point. It’s cracking a little bit, but nothing that’s very noticeable. The mask with the uncovered hose has been wiped down with a damp cloth, being careful not to hurt the broad arrow or size stamp. The other has not, thus the pale, dusty appearance of the facepiece.
Both are dated 1941. Both made by Avon.

As you can see, these are really nice ones. Apart from a bit of oxidisation around the eyepieces, and the same again to the metal fittings on the bags, they’re in near mint condition. Their head spacers are still fully pliable, and the straps are fully elasticated and as good as new. No rust on any of the buckles.

Mask B: Uncovered Hose

Also of interest are the names on the bags. As ever, I don’t have the greatest grasp on the military jargon for shortened ranks. Interestingly, one appears to not be the typical military name/service number combo. They are as follows:

J. Farnell
F 186
BHM. 44.

GN. Sharman
*Service number faded and illegible*

I’ve attached photos of both names, although they aren’t the easiest to read!

Thanks for you interest.

Regards, B.B.

War Relics Militaria sales

The Button Hole

Metal detecting is my main hobby and I am always thrilled to pull military relics from the ground. My main interest is in older military relics dating to the America Revolution as there were a lot of Loyalists in my area who lost a lot of buttons. This find isn’t nearly as old but is one of my absolute favorite finds to date. It would appear that many uniforms and accouterments were burnt at this site but for what reason I do not know. To date I have found over 130 buttons and countless buckles and strap ends. It actually got to the point where I was digging buttons without the metal detector. I would simply flip over a section of sod and sometimes recover three or four buttons at a time. Very productive area. I know that there are more there and I plan to return with a sifter and give it a very good search. Strangely I only found 2 Navy buttons…

Thanks for looking!

I presume that this is a home front Brodie. Does anyone know what the insignia represents?
