WWII US Navy and US Army Phonographs (Victrolas)

I picked up this USN Phonograph from the vets son in law.
He was given the phonograph in 1960 and never touched it.
The arm was frozen solid and I had to do some work to fee it.
Now it plays perfectly.
Also the outside was kind of dirty from sitting in a garage but the inside was like new.
Also I have a photo of the vet.
After the USN phonograph are my two Army Phonographs.

VE Day Newspaper, Philadelphia Inquirer

Hello folks.

This arrived in the post this morning.
A copy of the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper, printed on the 8th May 1945. Anyone with even a basic knowledge of the Second World War will know this is a date worth celebrating. For those somehow not in the know, the big bold headline should give the smallest of hints. On the day this newspaper was printed, some seventy-odd years ago, the fighting in Europe came to a standstill.

Although yellowed and rough around the edges and fold lines, and probably not all that rare, it is a very special piece to me. Being my first newspaper printed in English, I was able to sit and read it cover to cover. Reading through it really takes you back to that moment in time. It covers the milestones of the war in Europe, and the continuing fighting in the Pacific.

It’s a difficult thing to describe; the feeling I experience looking at something like this. A real portal in time, a look back to that particular moment in history. I hope the photographs I’ve provided do it justice.
I shall be getting this one framed at some point in the near future.

Regards, B.B.

A recent auction acquisition; the crimson piping and band are appropriate for both Bavarian Ulan regiments, and the 1st and 2nd Chevaux Leger regiments.
No mothing at all for a 100 year old cap.
Thanks to Karl S for the photos.

Help with identification of gun sight

Hi,

This gun sight was mixed with other gun-related items passed down to me from my dad. He was a firearms collector for many years. I’m hoping that someone might be able to tell me what type of weapon it might have come from and its vintage, if possible. Any help or comments would be appreciated and thank you for your time.

Tom

My early SA dagger.

I thought since I have shown a few of my blades I might as well show my early SA. It was manufactured by Neptun, and has always been one of my favourite makers. It has a bit of greying on the blade, a little bit of pitting on the nickel cross guards and a fingerprint that just will not leave the blade down at the tip of the blade but I am still very happy to own it. Thanks for looking.
