new to this and would be interested in your view on this ss dagger chained please? I can’t tell whether it is genuine and if it is, whether it is type I or type II? It looks like Type II in having tapered top connectors to the Wotan knot but has squared off chain cut-outs and an anodized sheath which I believe are Type I? There is no DRGM mark. I am a bit confused!
I have this one here and it appears to have been heavily cleaned when I examine the scabbard fittings as well as the blade. Somebody suggested that some details were off so I wanted to get some more opinions if at all possible.
Is it just heavily cleaned or is there actually something amiss?
Anyone please if you have any info on why these type buckles have been appearing the last few years in unissued/mint condition, would like to know.
Was a time not too long ago, to find an early aluminum pebbled finish with 70% of the paint remaining was near impossible. My understanding the soldiers would sand/rub the paint off these for a more attractive, contrasting look.
Well last 3 years, have seen 5 of them in their minty state, mine being the lesser condition. All the same maker & date. Was a hoard of these recently discovered or maybe an old time collector has liquidated ? One sold recently in 100% condition for $1200 USD on Bill R. site. (Not Bill S.) & I saw 2 of them at SOS 2016… Could they be fakes ?
Hey guys, I picked this up the other day by chance and was hoping it panned out to be real. I don’t know anything about them besides it caught my eye. The shells are definitely 8mm shells and the eagle is solid. Has a maker on the back but it doesn’t tell me much. The base seems to be fairly heavy. It’s probably 5 pounds if I had to guess. Any comments or thoughts on this item are appreciated.
I know that the EK2 for a non combatant bet 1813 and 1918 has the different ribbon to the combatant version however, I was recently told by another collector that the non combatant version of the cross had a different oakleave pattern or a marking on the oakleaves.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Is there an obvious marking that would be easy to see or would it be something subtle as in a differently shaped leaf?
