RAD hewer by WKC

Hi all

I’ve picked up an RAD Hewer as they’ve always very much appealed to me, this particular example came from a well known dealer in this field and was described to be in excellent and “uncleaned” condition.

I would love to see what you guys think of it, as I was wondering if It was consistent with an early or later example as I’ve seem many elaseware with the “ges gesch” markings and many without.

Secondly, whereas the pommel and handle fittings show a greyish patina, the grip screws look quite well preserved, could this be because the nickel has tarnished over the year but the material for the screws might not if stored away?

I don’t want to start the whole preservation verses restoration argument, but would you guys prefer something nice and shiny or something in an uncleaned state whenever possible.

An unscrupulous switcheroo.

So, a couple weeks ago I asked about displaying tunics. At the time I was looking forward to picking up a Korean war veterans tunic and a DDR Grenztruppen tunic I found at a military surplus place. I put the American tunic on reserve and was waiting until finances allowed for me to pick it up. Well, today was going to be the day.
I walked in and asked him if he still had my tunic. He said he did and proceeded to produce a tunic devoid of all the Korean war ribbons. I expressed my shock and asked where they had gone. He told me it is exactly as I saw it last. I asked him how I knew it belonged to a Korean veteran if it had no associated awards. He said he didn’t know but he would take $10 off so I could replace the ribbons. Also missing were the uniform pants that were with it. Well, I was forced to pass on it if he couldn’t be honest. Hekept offering excuses, how would I profit, I am the only one who works here and things like that.
So, I looked more closely at his Grenztruppen tunic, to discover it was actually a Bundeswehr Jaeger tunic with a DDR cuff title added. Not worth the $75 he was asking. Pass again. Unfortunately a complete waste of time. notcool

Fake alert Afrika cuff title original or fake?

I have a offer to buy these afrika cuff title and want to ask you about your opinion of this one.
I didn’t be so enthusiastic about this item. Could it be a real one?
Thanks and regards.

Poor pics posted with cell phone

I am new here, I am no moderator, have no credentials. But Doug had posted a thread on "Proper Picture Quality". It is my only problem since being a member here just shy of two weeks. I am a member of a closed helmet forum & if any of us posted a helmet using a cell phone, the moderator would delete it before it hit the forum.
Guys…show a little pride in your collection. A cheap digital camera with macro can be bought for $100 these days. Go to an arts & craft shop & buy some white backing paper or poster board for $5.00. If that is too much…break up a cardboard box & spray paint it white or whatever color you choose.

I seriously hurt my neck an hour ago twisting it to look at a posted item that was upside down. I have received a couple of emails asking opinions on helmets where the pics were sent to me via cell phone. I will no longer entertain that again.

I see very little quality pics being posted here & seems to be at an epidemic proportion. There are certain pixel ranges that really should be observed

Need help! Soviet medal real or fake?

Hi, I’m not a medal collector but I’ve got a medal and I want to make sure it is real or not (I’m no expert 😋)
I got it years ago at a junk metal seller for 1000LBP (0.66$ approx), and he nearly gave it to me for free😂
I did my research and it seems legit but I just want to be sure.
Of course I’ve cleaned it (it was in a pretty bad condition)

It is a 60 years anniversary of the soviet union :)
Thank you😊😊

M35 et 66 1937 police

Been in a Melancholy mood today. Meaning "Pensive sadness". So posting just a "Not so WOW" police helmet to match my dismal mood.
This one is all 37′ dated & is the earlier, less seen lighter matte green paint. Most of these, 37′ & 1939 were painted in a somewhat glossy darker green which I don’t favor. This one took me 5 years to pry it off Ken N.s’ shelf. But two years ago he gave it up to me
Thanks for looking
