Here’s my Weatherby collection I have the only one missing from the line up is the 30/378 which is taking me a long time to get its been pretty hard to get to this point the .224 is discontinued so it was the most difficult.
Thing about the cartridges Roy designed is the double radius’ed shoulder & long case necks to endeavor to keep the burn in the case for the longest possible time also trying to keep the torch like burn from the throat.
As for the 6.5/300 Weatherby Roy played with it but the powders of the day were not good enough so the 6.5/300 is not a new round just re-surfaced when better powders fitted the cartridge.
The one on the far left is the 460WM of which a friend owns one and I can tell you in its normal Mk V stock shooting it was an event that’s about all I will say you know what’s coming when you feel the sear drop and oh boy hang on as your going to get 108ft/lb of free recoil. Forgot he owns a 300 Weatherby Mag as well that’s nasty too.
We normally poke 4 rounds a piece out of the 460WM when he takes it to the range save it till last as no use trying to shoot groups after firing 4 of those firecrackers the load he has at present is a 500gn Woodleigh doing 2,500fps.
Will share more of my bits & bob’s as time goes by. Cheers
