It looks like a 10th printing. Ok, but what can be the year of printing? WW2? Later?

Need help! My first purchase - SS volunteer grouping.

Hi there,

I apologise in advance! I don’t have any means of copying these photos at present. I am very much doing this the amateur way for now (at-least until circumstances change). This is my first ever purchase of photos from the Third Reich era (probably from any era for that matter). I bought them from a friend of whom I always deal with - he would take them back in a heart beat if they were deemed incorrect. Hopefully all is okay, do let me know what you think. These were bought in mind of making a small framed display with insignias.

I’ll let the photos do the talking now. Best wishes of health to you all - stay positive.
- Scotty.

Helmet from 7/ SS PzrGren Regiment 23 ‘Norge’

Good morning folks,

I thought I’d share with you my latest purchase, a relic helmet found on the positions of the 7 Kompanie, SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 23 ‘Norge’ , part of the Nordland division, in Narwa. This regiment saw heavy combat around the Narwa bridgehead and later the Tannenberg Positions, with the 2nd Btl taking awful casualties, some companies being reduced to a handful of men.

Battle damage is present on the front of the helmet, with either a bullet or piece of shrapnel travelling horizontally from the front-right to front-left (based on what I perceive to be the trajectory), across the wearer’s forehead. Additionally, a piece of shrapnel/bullet has come from the wearer’s front and through the rear skirt of the helmet. A crack on the wearer’s left is also present.

Due to a new found interest in the Narwa battles and the later battles of the Nordland unit after reading Tieke’s Tragedy of the Faithful, and Poller et al’s book on the SSAA11, this helmet is both a great item to own, but also a sombre reminder of the vicious fighting that took place on the Narwa isthmus from early 1944 until late Summer.

Kindest regards and many thanks
Harvey

1939 Spange zum Eisernen Kreuzes 2er Klasse 1914, L/53, Hymmen & Co.

A recent addition to my spange collection.
This EK II spange still retains some of the silver frosting and burnishing to the high points. It is not really visible in the photos but the condition is quite nice.
It came on a piece of original ribbon that retains some thread, and appears to have actually been sewn to a tunic.
These are not seen for sale that often.
Ralph.
