I was wondering if anyone in the know would be able to identify the maker of this EK2. Unfortunately these are the only photos I could get, it has been gifted to me as part of a recent purchase. All opinions and comments are welcomed. Furthermore, if anyone knows of good reading regarding this area of collecting, I would be very thankful to know some titles.
Just introducing myself, my name’s Greg. Although I don’t directly collect WWII era stuff, I do occasionally do some research into things that have an overlap with the uniforms of this era. Recently I managed to acquire a U-boat deck coat (a genuine 8×4 one, not one of the post-war civilian jackets that are commonly mistaken as uniform), with an interesting personalisation by the original owner I’d like to share with the members of the forum and get their opinions on.
Hi Guys,
Just picked this one up, an early 57er EK1 by S & L, from examples I’ve seen all seems okay (I think). It is a 3 piece construction, with the core being magnetic, hardware seems correct (albeit catch damaged), only thing thats ‘foxed’ me is the silver finish to the frame, it appears to be ’silver plating’ , metal content of frame, underneath plating, is an alloy of sorts which looks silvery or coppery depending how you catch the light, if you look carefully there are a couple of places where it has flaked, is this a good trait ? Never noticed any plating on any of my wartime EKs.
Weight is 16-17 gramms
Width is 44.2 mm
Height is between 43.8 mm - 44.1 mm
Cheers All !
Paul
I’ve been looking to get my hands on an original Fallschirmjäger helm but i’m having a bit of trouble finding original helmets for sale so i thought i’d ask, where do you recommend looking? (should I look for antique shops or estate sales?) also what is something to watch out or and what is the price range i should be looking to spend? (AUD)
