New arrival: Panzergrenadier Visor Cap

This one came in just a couple days ago. I saw it and thought a late example would compliment my earlier produced one that I’ve had for years. All collectors know how we use various "logic" to justify new purchases to ourselves. :p It does differ a lot from my other example with some notable late war features like the sweatband, the rayon piping like on shoulder straps, cheap zinc wreath and eagle, and the fabric along the bottom edge. I’m drawing a blank on what to call that fabric. Tempted to say sateen, but it’s not quite. The seams in the cap band on either side of the wreath are also something I associate with late war as well, but that may just be in my individual experience.

Could it once have been? Eisernes Kreuz Erste Klasse.. 925

Gents,

Here is an example of a very salty one piece cross which from the quick glance, looks at though it has lived its original life as a very nice EKI. Then upon a closer glance the heavy polish, painted core and necklace mountlook as though the piece was a reproduction for the biker trade. But alas, the reverse tells a tale of intrigue with the 925 stamp! Do we have a little diamond in the rough?

Interested in seeing your thoughts.. cool militaria

Regards,

Joel

Need help please

Hi gents, I’ve recently started to collect Luftwaffe headgear and was hoping one of you guys could give me the name of a good book that will tell me what to look for and how to tell the difference between a good one and a fake. I know from reading the posts on this forum there are a lot of books that are junk.

Thank you, Bill

NVA EM/NCO visor cap from 1966

While not as rare as Steve’s fantastic GT visor he showed a few weeks back, this one is still of some collectable merit as well. A woolen visor cap for enlisted men and NCO’s from 1966, with a vulcanfiber visor. Infantry enlisted caps from the 60’s seem to be more difficult to get compared to officer’s variants (Same goes for tunics as well).
The use of vulcanfiber (vulcanized fiber) in visor caps ended in 1968. Plastic visors appeared in 1967 but existing stocks of vulcanfiber visors were used for a while. The chinstrap is also of real leather instead of vinyl/plastic. The sweat diamond has a nametag attached to it, reading ”Herrmann”, which is a very nice little touch. When I purchased this cap, it was very dirty and I had to use liquid nail polish to remove the thick layers of filth from the visor and the cap badge (Which unfortunately has lost it’s silver coloring).
