Red Star Under the Baltic

I’m half way through reading this graphic memoir of a Soviet Submariner during his years at sea in the Baltic in WW2.

If you enjoy reading about the tension and danger of life on board wartime Subs you will like this book. cool militaria

Order of the Red Star circa 1943

Just bought this nice Star from Matt…. this one was awarded to a Naval Officer, a Major Glovenko. I’m looking forward to researching this one.

I have decided in the interests of my bank account to try and slim my main Soviet collecting focus down to Naval/Maritime items or any item with Naval history ..however I will of course always be tempted with anything Red Army so it will be a challenge!

Camo M16 Opinions

Hi All. It’s been a while, I hope everyone is doing well.

I seem to have been bit by the WW1 bug recently and have been really interested in buying one of these camos. I don’t know enough about these to judge one myself yet.

To me this one looks all good and completely unmessed with, but i would like to hear your opinions.

Thanks for the help!

Question Information about Wotan’s knot?

Hi all!

I wonder if someone has some history on the so called Wotan’s knot on the M36 chains? The reason I’m asking is that we in Sweden have the same symbol as a road-sign for a relic site of interest, for example our runic stones ("runstenar"), that are seen in many places in Sweden. It looks like this:

24.0 KB

Now, in Sweden this isn’t called a Wotan’s knot (Wotan being the old Norse Asa-god Oden) but a Saint Hans Cross. Saint Hans is used in the Nordic countries as the name for John the Babtist. Also, if you google "Wotan’s knot", the symbol that comes up most frequently is not the knot on the M36 chain, but a completely different one.

Therefore, it would be a great learning experience if someone had som historical information about how the "Wotan’s knot" ended up on the M36 and what it symbolized in the nazi folklore.
