US Army 1912 Pattern Jacket

Hello all, I just got this as and another jacket as an early birthday gift and am really excited to finally get a US Army WW1 uniform (well part of one). Overall I’d say its in good condition as every example I’ve come across is usually full of moth holes and falling apart, though there’s a small tear on the collar and a tiny moth hole on the front bottom right pocket. The top button did fall off but I’m in possession of it and am planning to get it put back on by a tailor. The patches are in really nice shape too none of them are falling off or are moth eaten. I’d love to find pants that go with the jacket for a display but I’d imagine they’re hard to find and expensive. From what I can tell the soldier was a mess sergeant that served in the 7th engineer regiment which was a part of the 5th division and was over seas for a year and a half. One thing I find weird is that the engineer collar disk is labeled 7B which is different from all the other engineer disks I’ve seen since they only have a number and no letter. I was wondering what does the "B" in 7B mean? If anyone has anymore info on it as I’m sure I’ve gotten something wrong with the insignia please let me know. Thank you for reading!

20th Air Force jacket with soldier info

Hello all, today I received this jacket as an early birthday gift. I’m really happy about owning this since I’ve always liked the look of bullion patches and the two on this jacket are great. Overall it’s in great condition but it is missing the pants and one of the collar disks, getting replacements for both of those shouldn’t be very hard to find. So far I haven’t been able to find much on the original owner besides his name on a list of men who enlisted from NY state and his obituary from the 2000’s. I’d love to find out more such as his job and if he was issued any awards as the full complete uniform would make a great display. If anyone knows of any good archive research services please comment them below. Thank you for reading!

Carl halfar tunics

I know that the Carl Halfar factory made head gear during the war, but did they ever make field tunics?

Need help! Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber (2 of 2)

Here is the second example. Any information as to why this one is different is much appreciated. Thank you for all of your help!

Need help! Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber (1 of 2)

Hi,

Here is one of two examples of this badge I own. I was wondering if I could get any further details on it. Are you able to determine who made this one with these images? Much appreciated!

Aufklärer Schirmmütze - Scout Visor Cap

The war room is a bit untidy at the moment but I decided to shoot some photos of a fairly recent arrival.

Gerhard Strien was a Gefreiter and reserve officer candidate in Aufklärungs - Abteilung 29 of the 29. Infanterie Division. He fell in battle during the invasion of France on 18 June, 1940. His parents evidently kept both his visor cap and a newspaper clipping of his death announcement.

The announcement roughly says "Our deeply beloved and only son, Gerhard Strien Gefreiter and reserve officer candidate in a reconnaissance battalion fell on 18 June 1940 at the age of 20 on the earth of France. He took our big hopes and our joy with him. In deep pain, Gustav Strien and wife Elsa (maiden name Klöppel)."

It’s easy to hold the clipping and imagine their pain as they gazed on this very same piece of paper 79 years ago.

The cap has a couple moth nips but is overall in clean and brightly colorful condition. Curiously someone at some time seems to have partly crushed the metal cockade and the chinstrap end was torn and re-anchored to the cap by driving the push-pin back in at another spot in the chin strap. I can only speculate at one time a kid (young relative?) got a hold of the cap and played around with it.

According to the Volksbund grave registration data base, Gerhard is buried in the war cemetery in Andilly, France.
