Presentation Plate…Possible RK Recipient

I picked this up at a small antique store about 7 years ago in North Carolina, knowing nothing about it but the price was right. When I got home, I googled the name in hopes maybe something popped up. I was quite surprised to see that the recipient, Werner Baumbach, was an RK recipient, who earned his oaks on the date on the plate. What really confused me, was why there’s an IAB on this. Also, how an RK recipient’s presentation plate ended up in the corner of a North Carolina mom & pop antique shop.

Any theories on the IAB would be welcome. I am still curious about this piece.

Approve me Pleased to meet you.

Hi y’all,

I’m new to the forum. I’me been a military helmet collector since I got a Dutch MKII when I was 9. Fast forward 17 years and I’m still collecting with a current inventory of 120+ lids. I’ve got a soft spot for Communist and Gulf War era helmets, but I do collect some stuff from the world wars. I’m looking forward to interacting with other collectors and students of history.

Many thanks.

Hi all, I’e been enjoying the posts on this forum for quite some time and have found the details about a variety of items very useful. I’ll have a couple items I am looking to ID and I am starting to collect British Indian Army cap badges!

Relic helmet from Leningrad

Recovered in the former Leningrad area of Russia (probably from a swampy ground) - Luftwaffe M40 helmet size 62 (but it was found with a size 64 liner installed. Also some small repair on the liner, which looks to be period done.
Only the shadow of the decal can be seen - probably soaked off in the wet/swampy environment.
It was sold as a winter camo helmet, but once again it looks more like südfront yellow. Or just got this yellow due to age (or and) conditions.
I would consider this more of a semi-relic helmet.
