8000 of these pistols will be available this year from the CMP starting Sept 4.Most have incorrect parts and rebuild marks and some were arsenal refinished, most of the good correct ones will go to the CMP auctions. But its luck of the draw(seen that on M1 garands),you may get a good original finish one.A lot of you guys know this but here is what to look for for an original finish 1911a1.The front of slide was hardened and will show a darker finish line. Also around the slide hold open notch will show the same hardening and darker finish. The p proofs were stamped after finish and will show a white burnishing as will the cross cannon stamp, also look for the correct color of finish. Here is a rem rand with the original finish.I was thinking of ordering one from CMP, they start around 850.00 for the lowest grade,if you get lucky you may recieve a nice one, at any rate they wont last long!Another 8000-10000 will be available next year and so each year until they are all gone.
