Hello! Here we have a rare very large garison size early Finn flag from my collection. It looks to be hand dyed. I am told that pre-independence this flag design was supposed to be a "celebration flag" representing finish culture and heritage while it actually represented the hopes and dreams of a free Finland someday. Post independence it was one of the short list of proposed flags to be the official state flag but never was. The actual first official Finnish flag was a simple solid red background with the lion design in the middle. That first state flag was relatively similar to the Soviet and the red Finn communist flag seen in the civil war and therefore was replaced by the current design after only eight months. This flag could cover a small room! There are letters sewn in of what I believe to be the makers initials, but can’t be sure.
Dedicated to the workers, this is a nice blackened cast iron plaque.
The inscription:
"In memory of the completion of the Reich Chancellery - Erstanden March 1938 to today Berlin the ninth January 1939 ".
Artist’s signature "A. Breker" rs.
Foundry marks for the Prussian mining and metallurgical AG Gliwice.
Dimensions 26.5 x 13.5 cm.
This was presented by Albert Speer, for the most deserving senior staff in the building.
Quite a big crack in the top left corner, which has been repaired, it just adds to it’s history.
it has w.k &c with king and knight emblem
has scabbard but is missing tip and frog is detached
bayonet is missing the handle
if i offer it on the classifieds what should i ask for ?
i’m more interested in british equipment
any help would be greatly appreciated
