As some of you know, I have spent a fair time with the RZM data, and my understanding is this stamp was for correspondence
from a licensed maker with the RZM to ease the paper work in Munich. That is, it was intended to stamp correspondence,
not to be an RZM tag of the kind found in textiles.
I have seen it used once as an RZM tag, in fact, in a piece I own I got in the early 1970s.
I have never seen this stamp used in what I deemed to be an authentic cap.
Any other examples you might have I would love to see, so I may assess my own thoughts.

Maker is Dieges & Clust 20 John St. NY
http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/orders…al-ww1-692699/
It was awarded to George H Miller, father of Henry John Miller who was my mothers grandfather. There was an earlier relative that fought in the civil war I am told. Their name was anglicised sometime after emigrating (1860’s) from Muller (I can’t put in the Umlauts) and were originally from Hesse Germany.
This medal was awarded to volunteers from the state of New York who served in the Spanish American War and also part of the Philippine American War. Apparently, the medal was given to all volunteers, including army and naval militia.
The obverse of the medal shows the army volunteer, in full gear, advancing on the foe. The reverse reads "Awarded by the State of New York To One Who Served the Nation With Honor 1898-1899-1900."
The award is bronze in color. The colors are a bit washed out.

There are no markings or engravings visibile. Seems to coincide with 1800 French design but several characteritics don’t align. Example: Hardwood handle versus brass, diamond shape inlay to secure handle attachment hardware, iron pommel (I think) vs. brass, pommel has a 90 degree flush versus about a 30 degree taper.
All metal parts seemed to be uniformly pitted vs. smooth. Thanks in advance for any insight!
