I am not a gun collector, so I am not certain how much interest this information is to such collectors, but I happened to come across this document while researching something else, so I will put it up for what it’s worth just to get it off my desktop.

I knew that receiver covers were not a standard issue item, but I was not aware that it was standard practice not to issue rifle slings.

It is an army memo dated 8th April 1944.

A. It limited issuing of receiver covers to—–
1. Only units in Manchuria and China
2. For other units, use was only allowed when there was a compelling need

B. All rifles slings as well as Type 96 and 99 LMG slings were also no longer issued unless to individuals, who were specialists that required free use of both hands or others with similar compelling reasons.

Hello all.

I have this West Wall ring on order and it is already on it’s way.
Please check the sellers photos and part of his description to give me an opinion regarding it’s authenticity.
Of course, I really hope that it is original to WW2 Germany, but if not, the seller does accept returns as long as I pay for postage.
I did a bit of online research on this item before purchase and it looked very similar to other West Wall rings claiming to be original.
The underlying brass has been exposed by the lost silver plating and the pattern looked correct, but some rings had "1939/40" inscribed on the front and some did not. I was thrown by that but I bought it anyway.

I picked this up today having bought a whole dressed mannequin. The mannequin was a mix of mainly British 1950’s uniform and kit (BD blouse, trousers, shirt and boots), however, the gaiters and webbing belt were wartime along with a small pack which has the same name as the beret. Is there anyway of dating it? There are no stamps that I can find.
