Black SS uniforms in use by Volksdeutsche in Siebenbuergen? Or what?

Voila. Thanks to the stalwart David Bunde, I tripped on what is some kind of SS auxiliary is Romania in 1942, can that be.
There are black SS uniforms in use with some voluntary SS unit, whose insignia is unknown to me, but not….to…..YOU!! 110665011066511106652

Luft Officers Visor - A salty dog - Max Lindner Munchen

I was fortunate enough to pick this up today. My wife was kind enough to get me an early birthday present.

This is a nice visor in solid condition with loads of character and a fantastic shape. Nice bullion adler and wreath.

But… it is not mint. That is why I like it so much. Some stitching is lose, part of the silver piping is missing on the rear, it has sweat stains and gunk on the liner, sweat band and even on the under side edge (where the inside and outside of the cap band meet). This wonderful visor was definitely ridden hard but has held up beautifully. Not a desk jockeys visor for sure.

I am unfamiliar with the maker (distributor?) Max Lindner of Munich. And if they were a quality shop. The fabric does not appear to be doeskin and if it is Tricot it is extremely fine. I can take a macro photo if anyone cares regarding the weave.

Here is another from Oakleaf

Luftwaffe officer’s visor hat by Max Lindner, Munchen

Would love to hear your views.

Michael

Help w/ Restoring Brestadler on Kriegsmarine Officer jacket

I have acquired this Technical Officers jacket and would like to restore it to its original look. It is missing the breast eagle but do not see the stitch marks where the eagle would have been placed. Instead it looks like a stitched up pocket 4.25 inches long. I was informed that a silver bullion breast eagle would be appropriate for this jacket. Since there is no stitched outline of the breast eagle, was it a pin-on type?Attachment 11066381106637

Distinguished Service Cross - A pair

Hope you enjoy this.

I put this WW1 DSC on layaway a few months back. When picked it up this afternoon, my friend also had a WW2 example…so I felt it only right to keep them together. cool militaria
Couldn’t say no, so I picked up the pair.

While the WW2 version is un-named, the WW1 is really special having both a name and number.

It is named to Corporal Edward S Blackman of Company G, 59th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, A.E.F. He was born in 1893 in Harvey Illinois but lived in Providence RI.

He received the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action in the Bois-du-Fays, France, on or about October 5, 1918. Corporal Blackman repeatedly volunteered to carry messages through intense barrages of artillery fire in order to obtain essential information and to keep his battalion commander informed as to the progress of the battle. While performing this mission, he was severely wounded and died later as a result of wounds received during this action.

The WW1 award shows signs of honest use and age. Great patina with the highpoints nice and bright. There is slight fading and a tear to the ribbon.

Here is the WW1 award.
